Privacy Policy for Accounty
Last updated: October 22, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Accounty ("we", "us", "the App") collects, uses, and processes information when you ("Merchant", "you") install and use the Accounty app in connection with your Shopify store ("Store"), and when your customers use the fields and forms you build with the App inside your Store's customer accounts.
1. Information We Collect and Process
When you install Accounty, the App can access the following information from your Shopify account:
- Store Information: Your shop domain, the access token Shopify issues to the App to call the Shopify API on your behalf, your Accounty plan, and the published languages of your Store.
- Configuration Data: The fields and forms you create in the App, including their labels and help text, validation rules, options, conditional rules, and settings.
- Customer Data (processed, not stored): When a customer opens their Profile page or a form page in their customer account, the App reads that customer's answers from Shopify to show them. When the customer saves, their answers are sent to our server, checked against your rules, and written to the customer record in Shopify. This can include any detail you choose to ask for (for example phone number, company name, VAT or EORI number, or date of birth), as well as the customer's first name, last name, phone number, and email marketing consent.
We do not store customer data in our database. Custom field answers are saved as customer metafields in Shopify, and name, phone, and marketing consent are saved as the customer's own Shopify fields. Our database holds only Store Information and Configuration Data.
2. Shopify Permissions
The App requests only the access it needs:
- Customers (read and write): to create customer metafield definitions for your fields and to read and save your customers' answers.
- Customer account access to customers (read): so the App's blocks and pages in the customer account can show a customer their own details.
- Store languages (read): to show field labels in each language published in your Store.
- Online store pages (read) and navigation (write), optional: requested only when you first click "Add to menu", to add a form page to your customer account menu.
3. Why We Process the Information
We process this information exclusively to provide the Accounty app. It is necessary to:
- Authenticate the App and keep your session secure.
- Show your fields and forms to your customers in their customer account, in their language.
- Check customer answers against the rules you set before saving them to Shopify.
- Apply the limits of your plan and check your subscription status with Shopify.
We do not sell your data or your customers' data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties unless required by law. The App does not use analytics or tracking services.
4. Your Responsibilities as the Merchant
You decide which details your customers are asked for and how you use their answers, so for that customer data you are the controller and we act as your processor. You are responsible for having a lawful basis for collecting each detail and for telling your customers how you use it, for example in your Store's own privacy policy.
5. Data Retention and App Uninstallation
We retain Store Information and Configuration Data only for as long as your Store has the Accounty app installed.
When you uninstall Accounty from your Store:
- Immediate Action: Your authentication session and access token are deleted from our database when we receive the "app/uninstalled" webhook.
- Complete Data Erasure (Within 48 Hours): When we receive Shopify's "shop/redact" webhook, sent 48 hours after uninstallation, ALL data we hold for your Store is permanently deleted, including your plan, settings, fields, forms, and conditional rules.
- Answers in Shopify: Customers' names, phone numbers, and marketing consent stay on their Shopify customer records. Custom field answers are app-owned customer metafields: when the App is uninstalled, Shopify removes their definitions and keeps the values only temporarily before deleting them. Export any answers you want to keep before uninstalling.
We respond to Shopify's customer data request and customer redaction webhooks. Because we keep no per-customer records, there is no customer data in our database to return or delete; the customer's answers are held in your Store and can be viewed, exported, or deleted from the customer page in your Shopify admin. Our server logs may briefly record the customer identifiers that Shopify includes in these requests.
