Short answer: a notification digest collects every matching Shopify event over a period — an hour, a day, a week or a month — and sends them as one message instead of many. In Alius you choose this per alert: keep urgent alerts (big orders, chargebacks) instant, and move noisy ones (product edits, new customers) to a digest in Slack, email, Telegram, Discord or a webhook.
When instant alerts become noise
Real-time alerts are great until there are too many of them. A bulk product import can fire hundreds of "product updated" messages in a few minutes. A busy store can post a new customer every few seconds. When a channel is full of messages nobody reads, the important ones get missed too.
The fix is not fewer alerts. It is the right timing for each alert: some events need action now, others only need a look once a day.
How Alius digests work
Every Alius alert has a schedule:
| Schedule | What happens | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Instant | Sent the moment the event happens | High-value orders, chargebacks, out of stock |
| Hourly | One message per hour with every event from that hour | Product edits during an import |
| Daily | One message per day, at the hour you pick | New customers, returns, refunds |
| Weekly | One message per week | Inventory changes, a weekly review |
| Monthly | One message per month | Month-end summaries |
A digest message starts with a header — for example "Daily Summary — New VIP customers: 14 events collected" — followed by a numbered list of every event in the window. Nothing is dropped; it is all in one place.
While events wait for the next digest, they show in the Alius notification history with the status Scheduled, so you can always see what is coming.
Add an AI summary on top
On daily, weekly and monthly digests, Alius can add a short AI summary above the list — a few plain-English sentences on what stood out, so you get the point without reading every line. Turn it on per alert. AI summaries are available on the Pro and Max plans.
How to set up a digest
- Open Automations in Alius and create or edit a trigger — for example "Customer created".
- Add conditions if you want only some events, such as customers from one country.
- Under Schedule, choose Hourly, Daily, Weekly or Monthly. For daily and longer, pick the delivery hour.
- Optional: switch on the AI summary.
- Pick the channel — Slack, Email, Telegram, Discord or HTTP — and save.
Digest schedules are part of the Pro ($9.99/month) and Max ($19.99/month) plans. On Free, alerts are sent instantly.
A simple setup that works for most stores
- Instant to
#orders: orders over your average order value, chargebacks, cancellations. - Daily to email: new customers, refunds and return requests — read with your morning coffee.
- Hourly to
#catalog: product updates, so a bulk edit becomes one message instead of a flood. - Stock: use daily reorder alerts — one message per location with what to reorder. See our guide to Shopify low stock alerts and reorder points.
To cut noise even further, combine digests with conditional alerts, and pick the right channel for each with our comparison of email, Slack and Telegram.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Shopify notification digest?
A digest groups every matching store event over an hour, day, week or month into one message, instead of sending one notification per event. It keeps channels readable while nothing is lost.
Can I get a daily summary of Shopify orders in Slack?
Yes. Create an Alius alert for the order event you care about, set its schedule to Daily, pick the delivery hour and choose a Slack channel. You get one message a day listing every matching order.
Can some alerts be instant and others batched?
Yes. The schedule is set per alert, so urgent alerts can stay instant while noisy ones go into hourly, daily, weekly or monthly digests.
Which Alius plans include digests?
Hourly, daily, weekly and monthly digests, and AI summaries, are included on Pro ($9.99/month) and Max ($19.99/month). The Free plan sends alerts instantly.
