Short answer: Shopify can't post orders to Slack on its own. Install Alius from the Shopify App Store, click Connect to Slack on the Integrations page and approve it, switch on the channels Alius may post to, then create an alert for Order created and pick a channel. Every new order then appears in Slack within seconds. Add conditions — such as orders over $200 — to keep the channel focused.
Your team lives in Slack. Your orders shouldn't stay in Shopify.
If your team already talks in Slack, order activity locked inside the Shopify admin is a gap. Only people who log in see it, and only when they think to check.
What if a big order lands at 2am? What if a customer changes their shipping address after the parcel is packed? With Alius, every order event you care about posts straight to the right Slack channel, so the whole team sees it without a Shopify login. (New to Alius? Start with our overview of what Alius does.)
Why send Shopify orders to Slack?
- Faster response — fulfillment sees new orders the moment they arrive.
- Better routing — different channels get different alerts:
#fulfillment,#vip-orders,#refunds. - Team visibility — nobody needs a Shopify staff account to stay informed.
- Searchable history — Slack keeps every message, so you get a timeline of store events.
- Action buttons — stock alerts in Slack carry buttons such as Add to PO, so you can act without leaving the channel.
Which order events can Alius post to Slack?
| Event | Fires when | Typical channel |

| Order fulfilled | An order is marked as fulfilled | #shipping |
| Refund created | A refund is issued | #refunds |
| Cart abandoned | A checkout is left without buying | #sales |
Alius also covers returns, customers, products and inventory — more than 20 event types in total.
How to set up Shopify order alerts in Slack
Step 1: Connect your Slack workspace
In Alius, open Integrations and click Connect to Slack. Slack asks you to pick a workspace and click Allow — no tokens to copy, no webhooks to set up. Alius only gets permission to see channels and post messages; it does not read your team's private messages.
Step 2: Choose the channels Alius may post to
After connecting, your public channels are listed. Switch on the ones Alius should use and click Save. The Alius bot joins them automatically. Click Send test notification to check that it works.
Step 3: Create an order alert
Go to Automations and create a trigger. Pick the event, for example Order created. You can also start from a ready-made template such as High-Value Order.
Step 4: Add conditions (optional, but powerful)
Instead of posting every order, narrow it down with any of the 96+ fields:
- Total price greater than 200
- Shipping country equals Germany
- Tags contains "wholesale"
- Payment gateway contains "cash on delivery"
Step 5: Pick the channel and switch it on
Choose the Slack channel and activate the alert. Keep it instant, or on Pro and Max batch it into an hourly or daily digest.
Smart ways to use Slack order alerts
The fulfillment channel
Send every Order created to #fulfillment, so packers see each order as soon as it is ready — no email chains, no manual checks.
The high-value orders channel
Create #vip-orders with a condition like total price greater than 500. Account managers see big purchases right away and can follow up personally.
The operations channel
Send Order updated and Refund created to #ops-alerts. Address changes, edits and refunds get caught before they turn into wrong shipments.
The purchasing channel
Send reorder alerts to #purchasing. Each message says what runs out at which location, with an Add to PO button.

Frequently asked questions
Does Shopify have a built-in Slack integration for orders?
No. Shopify does not post orders to Slack by default. You can build a basic flow with Shopify Flow, or use an app such as Alius, which connects with one click and adds conditions, channel routing and digests.
Can I send different order alerts to different Slack channels?
Yes. Each alert in Alius has its own channel, so new orders can go to #fulfillment, high-value orders to #vip-orders and refunds to #refunds.
Can I only get Slack alerts for large orders?
Yes. Add a condition such as total price greater than 500. Only orders that match are posted.
Is the Slack integration free?
Yes. The Alius Free plan includes Slack with 3 alert rules, one channel per rule. Pro ($9.99/month) gives 10 rules that can post to Slack and other channels at once.
